This intensive program uses a historical-comparative framework to broaden your knowledge of social structures and processes, including social theory, migration, religion, ethnicity, cultural policies, gender, class, globalization, modernity, urban development and state research.
The primary goal of the program is to deepen your knowledge of theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of social phenomena, structures and processes. In a wide range of courses, you are encouraged to articulate individual positions with regard to bridging the two disciplines in the topics you study.
The program consists of Pre-Session training, two semesters of coursework and a Spring Session. The Pre-Session includes academic writing support to improve your written and spoken English, basic computer training and an orientation to CEU. During the Fall and Winter semesters, you are required to attend courses regularly. During the Spring Semester, you will write your MA thesis. Courses are generally in seminar format, including lectures and discussions, requiring active participation on the students’ part.
During the academic year you can attend a variety of workshops, seminars as well as lectures presented by visiting faculty or guest lecturers.
